Will Month

‘Will Month’ with St Luke’s Hospice

St Luke’s Hospice is once again teaming up with law firms across Sheffield for Will Month.

Will Month, which will last from 1st-3oth April, aims to raise vital funds for the hospice while helping people make their Wills too.

You must prioritise making your Will

Writing a Will is crucial if you want to ensure your wishes are carried out once you’re gone. It’s the best way to make sure your loved ones are provided for.

Maddalena Proctor, Office Manager at Wosskow Brown’s Gleadless Office, said: “It is important that you make a Will and decide what should happen to your money, possessions and property after you die. If you don’t leave a Will, the law decides how your estate is distributed and this might not be in line with your wishes.

“You can also decide who will be in charge of organising your estate and you can leave instructions for your burial or cremation. Plus, you can even appoint guardians for young children.”, she explained.

Shockingly, research has revealed that 62% of people in England and Wales have not written a Will. Therefore, 62% of people are risking their money, possessions and dependant children being left to someone they haven’t chosen.

Experts urge that you should update your Will every five years or after acquiring something significant e.g. property.

Many people worry about inheritance tax complications. Maddalena offered some reassurance, saying: “If you visit a solicitor, they can provide inheritance tax advice and assist with inheritance tax mitigation.”

We know writing a Will seems an overwhelming task, and that’s why we’re here to help you through the process.

St Luke’s Hospice – Will Month

We are proud to say that our Attercliffe, Gleadless, Hillsborough, Woodseats and Abbeydale offices are all participating in Will Month.

We’ll be helping people in Sheffield with their Wills in exchange for a donation. We will then be sending the donations to St Luke’s; the funds are vital to their patient care.

It costs St Luke’s £9.7m annually to deliver their services and £7.2m of that total amount must come from donations.

We took part in St Luke’s Will Month last year too and raised £1410 for this great cause. Maddalena, along with Taiba Choudhry and Yvonne Copley, will be writing the Wills for people during Will Month this year.

It’s very simple if you want our help; just make an appointment with us, give us your instructions, we’ll write your Will, and then you can make your donation to help St Luke’s hard-working staff and the terminally ill patients in Sheffield.
