A day of celebration in Page Hall - Sheffield
Pakistan Independence Day
CROWDS ATTEND PAKISTAN INDEPENDENCE DAY EVENT IN PAGE HALL
Dignitaries and leaders from Sheffield’s Asian business community were surprise guests at a Pakistan Independence Day celebration a local shopkeeper has staged for the last 22 years.
Normally the event attracts around 30 locals but crowds of 200 gathered at Raja Mohammed Akram’s Eastern Eye takeaway in Page Hall for the celebration last month.
They included Brightside and Hillsborough MP Harry Harpham, South Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner Alan Billings and City Cllr Shaffak Mohammed.
The event’s high profile was thanks to Wosskow Brown commercial property and immigration lawyer Mohammed Nazir, who decided to
mark Mr Akram's efforts by rallying for attendees in regional Asian media..
Both the British and the Pakistani national anthems were played and cakes designed with the flag of Pakistan were funded by Wosskow Brown and baked by former Mayfair chef Yousef Toumiat of La Perle on the Wicker.
