Ian Brown mightier than the Sword

Ian Brown mightier than the Sword

The sword, etched with “Award of Merit” across its Blade, was presented to Ian Brown on Sunday at the Cycle Speedway AGM. This award recognises Ian’s services to Cycle Speedway and his dedication to the development of the sport..

The Wilkinson Sword Trophy was started in the late 1970’s to recognise the efforts of people involved in amateur sporting competitions. Made by Wilkinson Sword’s own craftsmen, it is etched with an intricate design and has a gold plated rose wood grip. The sword is mounted on a plaque bearing the names of all previous recipients,  one of which notable is another Cycle Speedway enthusiast, Sheffield’s own Martin Gamble in 1995.

Ian Brown Wilkinson Sword

Over the last 15 years Ian has made  tireless efforts, mentally, physically and financially, towards promoting and developing Cycle Speedway.  He has been involved with the British Youth and Junior League, pioneered the sports academy and also served as Great Britain’s tour director in the last three Speedway World Championships (twice in Australia and once in Poland).

Ian is also responsible for the grassroots development of Women's Racing nationwide, which has seen his own daughter and Wosskow Brown employee, Vicky Brown, become the current Women’s British Indoor Champion.

Congratulations Ian, on this well deserved recognition.
